Reader Reports: Elizabeth, Mother of the 1920s

An entire family has recently been in touch with the blog about their encounter with a time traveler. This report comes from a mother daughter pair: Elsa Harriet White and Debra Hoffman.

One recent morning while Debra sat outside her home in Winona, a distressed and confused woman wearing 1920s period clothing appeared in her front yard. The woman claimed that Debra’s home was actually her home. Surprised and confused herself, Debra invited this potential time traveler into her home and out of the coolness of the early autumn. (Elsa tells this story a little differently, claiming that the woman knocked on the door first rather than being invited in by Debra.)

Once inside, Debra’s mother, Elsa, who lives with her and her husband, reacted strongly to the 1920s woman. The elderly Elsa, upon hearing that the woman’s name was Elizabeth White, became upset. Debra demanded that Elizabeth leave as she was distressing her mother and Elizabeth quickly acquiesced.

Elsa explained that her mother had disappeared in 1928 during a job search that had taken her away from Winona. The 1920s woman shared the name of her mother and even had an uncanny resemblance to a portrait of her that hangs in Elsa’s bedroom. To quote Elsa, she was “a spitting image of her”.

Elizabeth White herself made no claim that she was related to the family. She only stated that this was her house. She did not request further information, connection, or money. Debra had no sense that the family was being scammed or sussed out for potential victimization.

Elsa is convinced this woman is her missing mother, somehow visiting them from nearly a hundred years ago. Debra doesn’t know what to think.

Debra’s husband has also briefly been in contact with me. He is less on board with the idea and thinks there’s something else going on… But he couldn’t really explain why it would be the government or something else. It wasn’t his belief either that Elizabeth was trying to take advantage of Elsa, just being mean to her somehow.

None of them currently are aware of the whereabouts of this Elizabeth White. Those who believe they may have spotted or interacted with her are invited to add their information below or in a blog submission.

    1. House thief seems the most realistic… what kind of people just randomly enter houses and claim them as their own?? I don’t understand how people are so trusting of strangers.

    2. Are there pictures of these people? I mean, as far as I know, this is just a bunch of writing. If this person is real, where are her pictures?

      1. You guys should offer a reward. Pay people for pictures. More if you can prove they are a time travelers. I don’t know how you’d prove that, though. Like, maybe fingerprints or something. DNA? If she had the same DNA that might show something.

    1. Sometimes with dementia, people lose their short term memory, but retain long term memories. It happened to my grandma. She thought my nephew was her little brother. Kind of charming in a way. But also really hard. I don’t know these people. But I hope they have someone to help them.

  1. Oh silly mother! Elsa’s memory is beginning to slip. The door bell did ring but that can easily be confused with a knock.

  2. My mother actually disappeared in 1926 a few months after my birth. I did mention that in my original post. Thank you for sharing our story though!

  3. I just don’t understand why there are so many claims in such a small time period. Seems like a new story every day. Not sure if I’m more or less convinced than before but… keep us updated. Something to keep a mother of two occupied whether it is fiction or not

    1. More people want to get their stories out and prove this theory is real! Everyone needs to keep sharing, so we can investigate and figure this thing out!

      1. True! And part of the problem is that I haven’t had time to post my whole backlog of communications yet. I’m trying to get through them as fast as I have time to write posts!

  4. I think people need to be informed that this could potentially hurt many people-including my mother-in-law. Her disappeared mother is a very touchy subject, since she never met her. I’m sure the government is targeting our family. Halloween is over and we are still having problems with theses so called “time travelers”

    1. I agree with you. When I’d just read one or two accounts, it seemed silly. But with so many people coming forward with unconnected stories, I have to believe there’s something underneath all of it. I will say that I have absolutely met people just looking to be in the limelight and will be continually posting to debunk these attention seekers in the future.

  5. This isn’t the only case of possible time travelers, and your not the only ones to come across such phenomenon. Id warn you to stay away and let government officials handle it, you have been warned.
