Reader Reports: the Roommate from the 1960s

The post I meant to release first, based off correspondence from September with a self-proclaimed time traveler, still needs some work. In place of that, I have decided to begin releasing another series I have been working on which features information and accounts from readers claiming to have encountered the time travelers.

In this first on, we’ll be discussing the roommate of a local named Clooney. Clooney reported in an email to me that his assigned roommate, Ben Davis, appears to be one of the time travelers. Here is a list of his behaviors pointing to this conclusion:

  1. Claims to have grown up in Winona but at age 20 does not know where things are.
  2. Wears archaic suits exclusively for the first weeks Clooney knew him.
  3.  Obsessively researches the history and culture of the time period between the 1960s and the present day.

Moreover, and most interesting of all, Clooney found someone matching the interests and name of his roommate in a newspaper article – from 1960.

Has anyone else interacted with Ben Davis?

What do you think of his behavior? Is he a time traveler?

  1. This is a fake post. Back in the 1960 the newspaper was not title as Winona Post. It was titled as Winona Daily News. Not until the 1971, then it was change to Winona Post.

    1. This article was sent to me by an informant by the name of Clooney. I did not personally go and verify the article. If it is false, I apologize and do not claim it is real. I am posting reader submissions.

  2. Quit nit-picking their work! I think their effort to make such a creative project for school is wonderful! This is a very interesting story, and would be cool if it were true!!

    1. I appreciate your defense! As I stated in my email to you however, this is not a school project! I’m actually investigating this…

…though obviously I need to be more thorough.

The image of the article was given to me by email by Clooney. I do not know its origin, or how Clooney came by what they send me. I will have to contact him and find out further details.

  3. Hmmm very interesting. To me it seems that there is not enough evidence for him to be a time traveler. I do agree that the newspaper is very strange but it seems as if Ben Davis could be a common name. He could possibly just really enjoy history and dressing up in clothes from way back then. I am curious if anything else is going to emerge from Ben Davis in regards to being a time traveler.

  4. I apologize, I guess I didn’t see your reply to my email. So, you actually think there is time travelers? Do you have any idea how this would be possible? I’ve had a couple of strange interactions with individuals walking around town!

    1. There seems to be some evidence that there is something weird going on in Winona, and it seems to line up with the popular definition of “time travel”. Please send in any information or photos you have of suspicious individuals!

  5. I heard about this dude named Chad who is here from the 80s. He seems like a rad guy and all but nobody believes he’s a time traveler! I’m so sure he is though. More people should trust him.

  6. My wife kept telling me to check this out because she thinks my son’s girlfriend could be a time traveler too… I’m not buying it, Just another Halloween trick– Damn kids these days are such pranksters.

    1. I’d be inclined to agree with you about the Halloween tricks right now, but much of this evidence started appearing in August and September! If she has time, get your wife or son’s girlfriend to reach out to the blog to answer some questions!

  7. Ben is probably just pranking his roommate. I can think of a couple people in particular that seems to think their out of place too. Kids in college are going through a lot of self realization and I don’t think they should be penalized or called out for doing something a little out of the ordinary. My kids are both sophomores in high school and they do crazy things all the time. I don’t think there are any reasons to worry.

  10. The last question was asked for the first time, half in jest, on May 21, 2061, at a time when humanity first stepped into the light. The question came about as a result of a five dollar bet over highballs, and it happened this way: Alexander Adell and Bertram Lupov were two of the faithful attendants of Multivac. As well as any human beings could, they knew what lay behind the cold, clicking, flashing face — miles and miles of face — of that giant computer. They had at least a vague notion of the general plan of relays and circuits that had long since grown past the point where any single human could possibly have a firm grasp of the whole.

  11. Wow! Very fascinating! Some weird things are happening in Winona. A women came to my door claiming it was her house and I was so confused. It makes me feel a little more sane knowing that other people think time travelers could possibly be wondering the town of Winona.

    1. Debra, those weird things happen all too often. A few weeks ago, some guy in a sports uniform was sleeping on my porch. Another time, a bunch of college kids took my garden gnome. My personal theory is they are alcoholics, rather than time travelers. But that might be the alcohol speaking.

  12. My wife knows Chad. She works at the cafeteria at WSU and has gotten to know him there. I am not so sure he’s a time traveler, seems like a students that has a big imagination and is trying to mess with the real “time travelers” that the government seems to be sending here. If you ask me the government is bringing in these people to get into our personal business. I don’t know why and I don’t feel safe. Chad is just a college buddy having fun!

  13. Personally, I think this sounds like someone went to burning man and never quite came back. A hipster goes out into the desert for a magical week of fun and games and too much drugs….. and now they think they are twenty years in the future. The oldster clothes, the obsession with obscure historical stuff….. this guy obviously has some underlying issues. I hope his parents aren’t paying for his tuition.

  14. I was at a party last weekend and saw two guys, chad and brad i believe their name were, and they were fighting about some weird shit i couldnt even understand. They were talking jiberish and made no sense, something about time traveling and the 80’s so I am very lost as of now. Anyone else encounter something similar?

  15. Whoa…. lots of people into time travel here? My friend posted this link on his FB. I thought it might be some kind of spam or something. But it looks legit. A bit bizarro. Maybe not 100% true. But all these comments have me scratching my head. Have people met this guy? I mean, is, like, he a real dude?

  16. Okay I’ll bite. If he is from the 60’s (ahh I feel so stupid even typing it out), who cares? What’s your next step going to be, turn him into the government where they’ll keep him in a dim lit room to poke and probe him?
